Glass Garden Workshop
About
Who (or what) is Glass Garden Workshop?
Is it a person? A place? A school? A garden for the artistic process
to grow? Well....all of the above.
Artist Julie Feigum, originally from the Chicago area, was
fortunate to be exposed to the culture that the Windy City provided.
After moving to Iowa in her later teens, she searched for a means to
express her artistic spirit, in the starkly different environment that
living on a farm presented. Always drawn to the older architecture
prominent in the bucolic corn-belt communities, she found an outlet
working on older homes, which often were left in a state of disrepair.
Something about the forgotten effort of the craftsmen that created
these homes, compelled Julie to apply her talents to bringing them
back to life.
Necessity being the mother of invention, Julie needed to repair the
leaded and stained glass windows in these old homes. This inspired
her to seek out a teacher, that could help her acquire the tools to
restore these timeless artworks. As one thing often leads to another,
her new skill brought an explosion of artistic expression, that has
carried on unabated to this day. Bringing other people’s art back to
life, while rewarding, wasn’t fulfilling her need to create. Her studio
in Central Wisconsin, allows her to incorporate the aesthetic and soul
of her life experiences, into creations that truly have meaning.
